How does an automatic urinal sensor work?

An automatic urinal sensor uses an infrared sensor in the front plate to detect user presence. When a user steps in front of the urinal, the sensor registers the presence; when the user steps away, the sensor triggers a solenoid valve that releases a measured volume of water to flush the urinal. The whole operation is touch-free and automatic.

Are urinal sensors suitable for high-traffic washrooms?

Yes. Euronics urinal sensors are designed for continuous use in airports, offices, malls, and public infrastructure where manual systems often fail due to misuse, inconsistency, or vandalism.

Do automatic urinal flushers save water?

Yes. Automatic flushing systems deliver a controlled volume per use, which eliminates the over-flushing and missed flushing of manual valves. Euronics urinal flushers operate at around 0.4 litres per flush and are recognised under LEED and IGBC water-efficiency criteria.

How are urinal sensors installed?

Installation depends on the type. Recessed sensor urinal flushers are planned into the wall during construction or renovation. Outwall (exposed) urinal flushers are surface-mounted and well suited to retrofit projects without wall opening.

What maintenance is required for urinal sensors?

Maintenance is minimal. Typical tasks include periodic sensor cleaning, battery replacement (for battery models), solenoid checks, and inlet strainer cleaning. The simplicity of these systems makes them easier to manage than manual flush valves over the long term.

Battery-operated or AC-powered urinal flushers — which should I choose?

Battery-operated urinal flushers suit retrofit projects and washrooms where running mains wiring is impractical. AC-powered flushers are the right choice for high-traffic washrooms in airports, malls, and large offices, where battery swaps would be a maintenance burden.

Are recessed urinal flushers better than exposed ones?

Recessed urinal flushers offer better aesthetics, vandal resistance, and a cleaner washroom appearance, making them the standard for premium commercial projects. Exposed flushers are better for retrofits, industrial sites, and projects where speed of installation matters more than wall finish.

What is the difference between a urinal sensor and a WC sensor flusher?

A urinal sensor flushes a urinal automatically after use, with a small flush volume (around 0.4 litres). A WC sensor flusher does the same job for a water closet, with a larger flush volume sized for solid waste. Both use infrared detection.

An Automatic urinal sensor, known as an automatic urinal flusher, or sensor flush valve is a touchless flushing system that detects user occupancy using a sensor and flushes the urinal automatically when required. The system helps in maintaining better hygienic conditions in the washroom, helps save water, odor management, and also ensures that washrooms are constantly maintained.
Euronics offers a complete set of urinal sensors and WC sensors to match all requirements, including recessed or exposed installations, battery operated or AC operated options, and finishes in chrome, NERO matte black, and Ambria gold. Each unit is designed to be manufactured and serviced in India keeping in mind the unique Indian water pressure systems and usage levels with false trigger avoidance for passing traffic.

Types of Urinal Sensors & Automatic Flushers Available

There are varieties of automatic urinal flushers that have been designed based on the purpose of construction, location of installation, and method of maintenance. There are types of urinal sensors and WC sensor flushers available from Euronics.

Recessed Sensor Urinal Flushers

Recessed sensor urinal flushers are installed within the wall, while the sensor remains the only visible part from the outside. This design option is recommended for high-end commercial projects and infrastructure where appearance and durability are priorities. Recessing flushes into the wall ensures protection of inner mechanisms, fewer visual distractions, and ease of cleaning.

  • Best suited for: airports, corporate offices, hotels, malls, hospitality projects, premium washrooms.
  • Euronics models: Sensor Urinal Flusher Recessed (EU77BE), Sensor Urinal Flusher Recessed (EU54BE), EW01 Sensor Toilet Flusher, Sensor Urinal Flusher Recessed NERO (BEU77BE, BEU54BE), Sensor Urinal Flusher Recessed Ambria (GEU77BE, GEU54BE).

Exposed / Outwall Urinal Flushers

This type of sensor urinal flusher is mounted on the surface and features sensor and flushing mechanisms attached to the wall. This flusher is perfect for retrofit projects and industrial washrooms when drilling holes in the wall is impractical. Access for maintenance becomes much easier because of this design feature.

  • Best suited for: industrial washrooms, retrofit constructions, factories, public restrooms, and commercial premises.
  • Euronics models: Outwall Urinal Flusher (EU03), Outwall Urinal Flusher NERO (BEU03).

Urinals with Inbuilt Automatic Flusher

One piece urinals featuring built in sensor flusher as one complete unit. The design facilitates plumbing and sensor connections and ensures aesthetic integration of the unit.

  • Best suited for: New builds, modern offices, IT parks, hotels.
  • Euronics models: Urinal with Inbuilt Automatic Flusher (KUF).

Sensor WC Flushers (Auto Flush Valves)

Sensor WC flushers control automatic flushing of the water closets using infrared sensors, thereby eliminating manual operation and ensuring better cleanliness of WC areas.

  • Best suited for: Hospitals, airports, shopping malls, public restrooms, hotels.
  • Euronics models: Sensor Toilet Flusher / Auto Flush Valve (EW01), Sensor Toilet Flusher Ambria (GEW01).

Benefits of Automatic Urinal Sensors & Flushers

  • Water conservation: automatic flushing limits water usage per flush as opposed to manual flushing.
  • Sanitation purposes: eliminates need for physical contact with any flush handle.
  • Constant odor control: automatic flushing ensures every use is followed by a flush, eliminating under flushing.
  • Reduced reliance on maintenance staff: automatic systems require less supervision due to reduced abuse.
  • Deter vandalism: installation of sensors and flush mechanisms prevents access to inner parts of urinals.
  • Supports green buildings: reduces water usage through controlled volume flushing and hence earns water efficiency credits.
  • Accurate sensing: sensor with detection range up to 65 cm ensures true use of urinals.
